From the Principal
Thank you to all who were able to provide feedback in the surveys that were distributed over the past weeks. This feedback will be reviewed by our leadership team and staff over the following weeks and used for future planning that will be communicated in the newsletter throughout Term 3.
Student reports will be sent out via Compass on the final day of the term with three way conferences (formerly parent/teacher conferences), scheduled for Week 3 in Term 3. This year staff are developing opportunities for student voice and parent engagement through the conference process and so we ask that families bring their children to the conference. We hope that this will be an important time for families, children and teachers to reflect on learning and plan for future learning goals. As always, parents are welcome to contact their child’s teacher to discuss learning or to make an appointment to meet with them outside of this schedule.
NAPLAN reports for parents are due to be released at the start of Term 3. We hope that this data will also be available before the conferences take place. The preliminary data provided to schools already indicates:
- A strong performance in Reading, Spelling and Writing in Year 5 with a high number of students achieving in the top band (exceeding).
- Small numbers of students in the bottom band (needs additional support) in our Year 3 cohort, particularly in Reading and Numeracy.
These results again support the strong foundational work in literacy and numeracy that has long been a feature of Cathedral, along with the exciting learning that is taking place through the new Mathematics and English syllabus implementation, lifting the results of students who are achieving beyond their stage.
Grateful - For the opportunity for all students at Cathedral to learn at their point of need.
Thankful - For the ongoing love and support that our students receive from their families and their teachers.
Blessed - Loving God, we are blessed with a diverse student population who together are a true sign of your love.

Stage Masses
We are excited to be recommencing these celebrations this term. Last Thursday Early Stage 1 & Stage 1) came together to celebrate Mass together. These smaller gatherings allow us to focus more closely on the meanings and significance behind many of the special rituals and actions of the Mass.
Thank you for your flexibility around some recent schedule changes with our Stage Masses due to a number of extenuating circumstances. The Community (Google) Calendar will reflect the most recent changes to school events, including those associated with Religious Education and the Catholic Life of Cathedral School.
This Thursday’s planned Year 1 & 6 ‘Buddy Mass has been postponed and a new date will be finalised soon.
RISE!
RISE is for young people in Years 6 to 9 (anyone in Years 10-12 can be involved as Youth Team members).
A festival full of fun, friendship, small group challenges, workshops, games, music and lots of opportunities to encounter Jesus. Don't miss the chance to be part of something that changes lives and it's great fun!
RISE will be held in Bathurst during the school holidays on the 11th and 12th July in Bathurst. Register HERE!
Last Friday we were lucky enough to participate in an online presentation with other schools and youth ministers from around our diocese. Deacon Josh and his amazing team of youth ministers shared additional information and highlights about this year’s Rise! My highlight was confirmation that Cathedral School is privileged to be the host location for the daytime components of the festival this year. Many of our Year 6’s are excited to not only participate in Rise but to be proud hosts and ambassadors for Cathedral School!
I wonder if this is as strong of a home advantage as Collingwood is at the M.C.G?
Sacramental Program:
It has been wonderful to hear about many of our students receiving sacraments through Parish Masses recently. Please email a photo through to me if you wish to have this celebrated in the school newsletter. We kindly request that names are not visible in the provided photograph
Information on First Penance, First Holy Communion and Confirmation and how the parish based, but school supported, Sacramental Program will function this year was provided last term via grade overviews, school and the parish information session. Please speak to your child’s teacher or myself if you require further information about registrations.
Monday Liturgy & Assembly:
Please join us each week between 9:00 and 9:30 am as we pray together and acknowledge the achievements of those in our school community. Classes, Grades and Committees each take responsibility for leading these celebrations and it is a wonderful way to find out all of the special things happening inside and outside of our learning spaces.
Our Parish
We are proud to be an important part of the Cathedral Parish of Ss Michael & John. Please follow this link for more information about the many formation opportunities, ministries and other ways that you can participate in the life of our parish.

Library
Congratulations to the many children who have borrowed 15 times this year and will be taking home a free book to keep!
These reward books are good condition second hand books that do not have a Cathedral School barcode on the front. If your child comes home with this type of book it is theirs to keep. All books with a Cathedral School barcode need to be returned to school after a week.

Class in Focus | KM and 3B
KM students have had another wonderful week in and out of the classroom.
Our literature unit this week had us looking at the texts ‘Chip’ and ‘Elmer’. We have been learning how to form opinions about characters and understand that others have different perspectives. We have linked this to our Creative Arts lesson and are creating artworks from a ‘birds eye view’.
In our Mathematics lessons this week we have been looking at types of measurement. We started the week by looking at how we can find half off an object. We could do this by folding our paper so that it was equal. We then moved into measuring time, and how we can read analog and digital clocks. We had a great time with our learning partners and worked together recording the different times.
We had the opportunity to attend Mass with KA, Year 1 & Year 2 on Thursday. Thank you to Fr Karl for celebrating Mass with us. Thank you to our parents and families that were able to come along too. In History we have been looking at the different types of families that make up our Kindergarten class. We look forward to Kindergarten’s Oral Presentations of their Family Artefacts in Week 9 & 10 this term.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF 3B!
Every day in our 3B classroom is buzzing with activity. We are immersed in learning, building friendships, working as a team, and sharing moments of happiness and laughter. 3B students are engaged in a variety of activities across all Key Learning Areas, making each day a rich and rewarding experience.
3B students are enthusiastically embracing the challenge of learning pre-cursive handwriting. This foundational skill is essential for developing fluid, legible writing.
Through our guided lessons, students are practicing improving their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Their dedication is evident in their increasingly smooth and consistent entries and exits.
Learning pre-cursive is more than just writing; it teaches perseverance and attention to detail. Our students' hard work is paying off, reflected in their improved handwriting and growing confidence. I am very proud of their efforts and look forward to their continued progress and success.
Mrs Baird | 3B
SPB4L
This week, our students learn about acknowledging others for their achievements. Time will also be spent evaluating our current reward systems with students giving their feedback around how and what should be acknowledged as a whole school.

Wellbeing
Emotional Literacy
Working on our emotional literacy gives us opportunities to develop our ability to understand and express different emotions. When we improve our emotional literacy, we can work towards recognising our own feelings and our ability to manage them. This allows us to cope with different life situations, such as managing conflict, making friends, coping in difficult situations, and being resilient when dealing with change.
Whole Family Activity:
Feelings Charades
- Gather together as a family, this might be around the dinner table, lounge room, or around the fire outside.
- Take turns to act out a feeling or emotion. Use your face and body language to act this out, For example: Make an angry face and stamp your feet
- Other family members need to guess the feeling/emotion.
- After someone has guessed the feeling/emotion, have family members discuss a time they have felt this way before and why. If it was a negative emotion, how did they overcome it?
Family Habit Builder:
Around the dinner table, ask everyone to share a feeling they felt during that day. Discuss how they dealt with that feeling and then discuss and share strategies you could use when faced with particular feelings.
Breakfast Club
Please contact Alana in the canteen on 0417 044 116 if you would like to be included in the morning breakfast roster. Food is served from 8:30-9:00am.
If you could spare some time at drop off it would be greatly appreciated.
This program is voluntary and only students presenting to the canteen will be given breakfast. Please contact the school if you would like to opt your child out of this program as all students who present to the canteen will be given breakfast unless instructed otherwise.
Sports
Netball Gala Day
We had 90 talented players showcase outstanding sportsmanship, relentless effort, and form wonderful friendships on the court last Wednesday at the Netball NSW Schools Cup. It was a day filled with enthusiasm, teamwork, and lots of fun. We're so proud of all our participants for their dedication and spirit. Thank you to MacKillop College - Bathurst for providing our umpires. A huge thank you to all our incredible parent volunteers for their support, encouragement and organisation. Go, Cathedral!
Eastern Creek Cross Country
Our school community congratulates Emilia for her excellent time and efforts at the CPS Cross Country in Eastern Creek. We are so proud of her achievements and dedication. Well done, Emilia!
Rugby 10’s
Next week on Wednesday 19th June, we will have a team representing Cathedral at the annual Rugby 10’s day in Orange. We will be finalising the team on Tuesday this week and will have notes out via COMPASS ASAP. We will also be holding a training session on Thursday 13th June at 8am at the school. Students are asked to wear training clothes (including boots, headgear and mouthguard) and bring their school clothes to change into after training.
Soccer Gala Day
On Friday 21st June, we have close to 100 students representing our school at Assumptions Soccer Gala Day in Bathurst. This is a wonderful day full of fun and fitness. We thank Mr David Maher for his organisation of this day and using his expertise to teach our Stage 2 students skills and game drills. Students will need to have shin pads for this day.
Community Sport Site
Our Diocesan sports coordinator Mr Steve Maguire has created a Community Sport Site (has reports from events) for parents, families & teachers which can be accessed to assist with Diocesan Sports pathways. You may like to bookmark this site for reference:

Mini Vinnies Donations Day and Knit-In
This term at Cathedral, the Mini Vinnies Club has recommenced and students have been meeting each week to discuss ways to help others.
In particular, the students have been learning to knit, in preparation for our charity Knit-In.
On Friday 28th June, we are asking for your support a few different ways. Firstly, we will be collecting any warm winter goods you may have that no longer fit and are still in good condition eg. Coats, jumpers, blankets, boots, and hats. These can be dropped into the school hall throughout the day, starting at 8.30am. Secondly, we are holding a charity knit-in with the Mini Vinnies members inviting any willing members of the school and parish community to help knit scarves or beanies. Please call the school office to register if you can attend on the day, starting at 12pm with a brief induction. We are also looking for anyone who is able to sponsor the Mini Vinnies club and make a donation, as we would be very grateful for your help. A QR code has been provided below or you may also find the link on the school facebook page. All funds go directly to the local region.
We have also collaborated with our Cathedral Agriculture Club who have grown fresh produce this term which will be made into delicious food to serve our guest volunteers on the day.
Congratulations to all Mini Vinnies and Agriculture Club members on your great commitment to this worthy cause. We look forward to a successful Knit-In and donations day in Week 9.
